🌟 Introducing Our New Kindness Bulletin Board!🌟 We’re excited to launch our Caught Being Kind Bulletin Board! Students are encouraged to observe and recognize classmates’ acts of kindness by writing them down and posting them up. Let’s inspire one another and create a ripple effect of positivity in our school community! Challenge: Let’s aim to recognize 50 Acts of Kindness to finish October up on a strong note! Are you up for it?

SMS would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Congregations for Children and David and Sandy King for making our morning so special! Our staff was delighted by the thoughtful treats, including the most delicious homemade cinnamon rolls that gave us the perfect boost to start the week. We are incredibly grateful for you and your support. Acts of kindness like this remind us how lucky we are to have such amazing partners supporting our team!

Tryouts will be held next Wednesday, 10/23, from 5-7 and Thursday, 10/24, from 3-5 at SMS. Additional workouts will be held next week before tryouts on Monday, 10/21, and Tuesday, 10/22 from 3-5 at SMS.

🌟 NC Teacher of the Year Visits Swain Middle School! 🌟 We were honored to welcome Heather Smith, North Carolina’s 2024 Teacher of the Year, to our campus yesterday! Mrs. Smith, an 8th-grade math teacher from Waynesville Middle School, visited to see the incredible things happening here at Swain Middle. We also want to shoutout a couple of our Student Lighthouse team members, Khloe Chapman and Caroline Freshour, who did an amazing job leading Mrs. Smith on a tour and showcasing the culture, pride, hard work, and achievements of our students and staff! Thank you, Mrs. Smith, for your dedication to education!

Important information on attendance changes for students

Blue Ridge Health will have a provider available for a couple days to do sports physicals. The dates are 10/17, 10/23, 10/24, 10/31. Call 828-233-3714 to schedule appointment. The physical form does require parents/guardian to fill out a portion of it. They will be available in the main office.

Here are your players of the week.

Wrestling practice will begin tomorrow, 10/15 at the high school performance center. It will go from 3-5. A bus will provide transportation to the high school

Tryouts for Middle School Basketball. Boys will be tomorrow, 10/15, and Wednesday, 10/16 from 3-5 at the High School. A bus will transport them there. Girls will be next Monday 10/21, Tuesday 10/22, and Wednesday 10/23 from 3-5 at the Middle School.

SMS is still collecting new blankets to help families affected by Hurricane Helene. If you can donate, it will make a big difference for someone in need. Challenge for the Week: Mend a relationship or fix a negative interaction you’ve had with someone. If you’ve hurt someone, step up, own it, and apologize. Don’t wait—this is your chance to make things right. Every day, you have the power to lift someone up or tear them down. KINDNESS IS THE STANDARD at Swain Middle—because that’s who WE are. Let’s have a great week this week! Bring in those new blankets, spread kindness, and show what it truly means to be part of this amazing school community.

This week at SMS, Mobile Dentist forms went home with students! Any student that has completed the form can return those to our school nurse, or you can sign up easily online at mobiledentists.com!
